Customer journey design and manufacturing · Austin, Texas

We redesign the stretch of your customer journey where buyers go quiet. Then we manufacture the box that carries the fix.

Built for coaching and course businesses running a launch-shaped offer: a challenge, a cohort, a live event, a paid onboarding. Joe Robert’s marketing was working fine.

POD Ninjas, on the first challenge Joe Robert ran after implementing the custom box strategy.

$10,000. Two hours on strategy, a full day in the workshop, and a written blueprint with an ROI forecast in under two weeks.

A fanned stack of POD Ninjas challenge envelopes. Three are kraft brown, stamped Day 01, Day 04 and Day 08. One is bright blue and stamped Day 12.
The envelopes Joe Robert’s attendees opened, one a day for fourteen days. Day 12 is the blue one, and it is blue because that is the day the $500 offer arrived. Custom Box Agency product photography

The pattern

None of this is a traffic problem.

Three sentences from Joe Robert, published on the Custom Box Agency case study:

“Despite consistent marketing, sales wouldn’t budge past 100 seats.”

Joe Robert, POD Ninjas

“Attendees were losing focus halfway through the Challenge.”

Joe Robert, POD Ninjas

“Only 20% of Challenge participants converted into my $500 program.”

Joe Robert, POD Ninjas

You probably already know which of those three is yours.

SWAG stands for Stuff Without A Goal.

That’s Mark Stern’s line, from his own contact page, and he means it as a diagnosis. Order the branded thing and hope it does something.

The drop-off the stuff was supposed to fix stays invisible for another quarter. So you go buy more marketing to feed a journey that leaks.

What moved

Three more clients, three different problems.

  • Ideas That InfluenceDaniel Den

    • 1 in 3

Buyers who posted about the box on social media, without being asked

“One out of every three buyers of our box started posting about it on social media in a very positive way. This was without us even asking about it.”

  • Real ProsperityPenelope Jane Smith

“Since implementing the CBA box in our events, our conversion actually almost doubled. So this has definitely been a big up level for us and I just absolutely love it.”

  • Social Sales StarsMolly Mahoney

“Since working with CBA, we have had so much clarity… That is something that really puts the human back into your business. It gives you that real, tangible thing, and that’s something that can’t be created with AI.”

Eleven envelopes were brown.
Three were blue.

How the work runs

“our core strength resides in optimizing the customer journey and enhancing the overall customer experience”

Custom Box Agency, contact page

Where that sentence currently sits: inside the answer to the FAQ question “I Need Promotional Items. Can the Custom Box Agency Help Me?”

The envelope on Day 12 was a different color from the eleven before it.

Phase one is the map. Joe’s map had fourteen days on it and a $500 offer sitting on Day 12.

Joe’s attendees had been opening one envelope a day since Day 1. On the day the offer landed, the one in their hand looked different.

“The color change built excitement as the offer approached.”

The framework behind it

Jewels, Tools, Rules.

The Jewel is the outcome your customer actually wants. Tools are what you hand them so getting there is easier. Rules are the unglamorous part: what to do first, and where to look when they’re stuck.

A typical box carries 30 to 50 unique assets. Every one of them has a job.

If a piece can’t say what it’s doing in there, it doesn’t go in the box. That rule is the answer to SWAG, and it’s why the engagement opens with a workshop.

One company

The strategy team and the production team are the same company.

Who’s running it.

Mark Stern, founder and CEO of Custom Box Agency.

Mark Stern founded Custom Box Agency in 2019 and still runs it. Before that, a decade at Deloitte as a strategy consultant.

That’s why phase one is a strategy session and a workshop, and why the first thing it produces is a written blueprint.

“We’re one of the few agencies in the world that combines game design strategy with end-to-end production and fulfillment.”

Custom Box Agency

The people who decided what belongs in envelope 12 work at the same company as the people running the kitting line. Custom Box Agency handles supplier activation, sample sign-off, manufacturing and kitting, and manages every step in-house for quality control.

Range

Where a box goes in

Custom Box Agency sorts this work three ways.

  • Acquire

“I want more customers now.” Challenge kits, event teasers, book launch products. All of it lands before the pitch ever happens.

  • Deliver

“I’m tired of customers who disappear after they buy...” Onboarding kits and implementation toolkits: welcome guides, journey maps, action cards, progress trackers.

  • Retain

“I want lifelong fans who gladly say YES! to every next step with my brand.” Awards that mark a milestone, and box components numbered “2 of 4” that leave a loop open on purpose.

We start in the middle one. Acquisition tends to move as a byproduct, because the box changes what the offer is. Joe’s version of that: “this box upleveled my brand and allowed me to charge a premium.”

What it costs

$10,000 to start. About $25,000 through design.

Every figure below is published by Custom Box Agency, on its contact page and its process page.

Four phases.

  • Activate

    $10,000Under two weeks

Two-hour strategy session plus a full-day workshop, Austin or virtual. Output: the CBA Blueprint, with product overview, content outline, estimated costs, and an ROI forecast.

  • Build

    $5,000 / monthTypically 2 to 3 months

Dedicated Client Success Manager, print design team, sourcing specialists. Output: finalized product design, Brand Identity Kit, sourcing approvals, final production estimates.

  • Produce

No separate fee publishedVaries by product

Supplier activation, sample sign-off, mass production, assembly and kitting, in-house QC.

  • Deliver

    $2,500 / monthOptional, ongoing

Austin warehouse. Direct to customer or in bulk.

Phases one and two together run approximately $25,000. That’s Custom Box Agency’s own summary number.

Then the hard costs, which are yours.

  • Boxes: $15 to $30 each, depending on contents and quantity.
  • Domestic shipping: about $15 per box up to five pounds. International: $32.
  • Mailers, if a box is the wrong format: $2 to $6.

There’s no minimum order. But producing 50 or 100 units costs nearly what 250 costs, which makes 250 the smallest number worth considering. Most clients see real price breaks at 1,000.

Three to five months, first session to boxes in the mail.

If the number you need to move has to move this quarter, this is the wrong purchase and we’d rather say so here than on a call.

Somebody who wants a price per unit before a conversation shouldn’t book this.

As a distributor, Custom Box Agency can source virtually any item you can imagine, so that quote is easy to produce. The $10,000 buys the argument for why a specific thing belongs in the box at a specific moment.

Start here

Bring the number.

The one that stopped moving, and the offer it stopped moving inside of. Phase one goes to work on that, and it is priced on its own at $10,000. Build is a separate decision at $5,000 a month.

  • 100 → 200 seats sold
  • 20% → 40% into a $500 offer
  • 4x campaign revenue
